I have this really hard puzzle that i need to solve for my class but I'm having a hard time. Can someone please help me?

I've been given a list of places and a list of hints and I have to find out which place fits the hints that are given. The places are:

Tokyo, Japan
Singapore City, Singapore
Melbourne, Australia
La Paz, Bolivia
Montreal, Canada
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Mexico City, Mexico
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Cairo, Egypt

The hints are:
1. The city is on the mainland of a continent
2. The city is located on the Western Hemishphere
3. The city is located entirely north of the Tropic of Capricorn
4. The city is located entirely south of the Tropic of Cancer
5. The city is located on a coast

After narrowing my choices I only have La Paz, Bolivia
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Mexico City, Mexico
and Buenos Aires, Argentina left.

Please help!! Thanks

---And take Bolivia out of that because it's not located on a coast.

-MC

Rio is located on a coast.

Do you know where the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are? Check a map to see if any of those places would fit.

Is it Rio de Janeiro, Brazil?

-MC

yup

Thanks!!

To solve this puzzle, you need to match each hint with the corresponding place. Let's go through it step by step:

1. The city is on the mainland of a continent:
- Tokyo, Japan: Japan is an island country, so Tokyo does not match this hint.
- Singapore City, Singapore: Singapore is also an island, so it doesn't fit this hint.
- Melbourne, Australia: Australia is a continent, and Melbourne is on the mainland, so it matches this hint.
- La Paz, Bolivia: Bolivia is a landlocked country, so La Paz does not match this hint.
- Montreal, Canada: Canada is on the North American continent, and Montreal is on the mainland, so it matches this hint.
- Sao Paulo, Brazil: Brazil is a country on the mainland of South America, so Sao Paulo matches this hint.
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Brazil is a country on the mainland of South America, so Rio de Janeiro matches this hint.
- Mexico City, Mexico: Mexico is a country on the mainland of North America, so Mexico City matches this hint.
- Buenos Aires, Argentina: Argentina is a country on the mainland of South America, so Buenos Aires matches this hint.
- Cairo, Egypt: Egypt is a country on the mainland of Africa, so Cairo matches this hint.

2. The city is located on the Western Hemisphere:
Eliminate any cities that are not located on the Western Hemisphere. In this case, only Tokyo, Japan is not on the Western Hemisphere, so you can eliminate it.

3. The city is located entirely north of the Tropic of Capricorn:
Eliminate any cities that are not located entirely north of the Tropic of Capricorn. In this case, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina are both located south of the Tropic of Capricorn, so you can eliminate them.

4. The city is located entirely south of the Tropic of Cancer:
Eliminate any cities that are not located entirely south of the Tropic of Cancer. In this case, La Paz, Bolivia is located north of the Tropic of Cancer, so you can eliminate it.

5. The city is located on a coast:
Eliminate any cities that are not located on a coast. In this case, Mexico City, Mexico is not located on a coast, so you can eliminate it.

After going through all the hints, you are left with only one city that matches all the hints: Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Therefore, the answer to the puzzle is Sao Paulo, Brazil.
