  • eth/125 -

Hi all axia students. I am one too of ETH/125.
    Michelle Baur

  • sociology -

This is too funny... I am another Axia student. I looked in Page 34 and I found some things that I could google but nothing that said "hey this is the answer."

  • eth -

That is so funny everyone is struggleing on this question and all in the same class. Some where is the answer but where?

  • eth -

I have read most of chap 2. there is an answer in there somewhere but is it the correct one? maybe thories and studies I'm not sure I'm just going to go with my gut feeling and do my best

  • eth -

i also happened to stumble across this, im glad im not the only one wishing this class would go away....lol. no i did look at page 34 and there is some there but not too much.

  • sociology -

Hey, don't leave me out! I have been reading all the responses and laughing my head off! So this is our 'online' under the bleachers hang out...too funny. (Axia student too)

  • sociology -

This is really funny, I too am a Axia student. ETH 125 is one of the hardest class's yet! I am struggling in Week 2 day 5! Thank you to everyone who can read all of our chapter readings and not fall asleep!

  • sociology -

Axia here too. Man let's all meet here again for futhur discussions on this class. This is hard for me and I am hope I can pass this class. Thanks for the help you guys!

  • sociology -

OK, I'm bookmarking this site, hope to see you all here. This is like a ETH 125 hideout! Way cool!!!

ETH125 Assignment: United States-Centric Views Comparison

  • sociology -

It funny to see everyone google the question and all end up in the same place.

I think I found one its in the eth book pg 38 Lapier's study.

  • sociology -

Working on the final for ETH 125 at Axia. Not fun.

  • sociology -

Axia too!!! I'm actually liking the ETH125 tho. It's interesting!

  • sociology -

Axia student also Ethics 125 week 2, I love this forum that was started. Stuck on Day 5 question also.

  • sociology -

A little of it really is but i could never soak up much of the reading and i really am tired of writing.

  • sociology -

this site was too funny a find. It goes back over a year with the same compliants. Don't you think Axia would figure out that the syllabus for this class is bunk and needs updating. I also have com215 and that syllabus is way off. Who writes a 700 to 1050 word journal entry or a 350 word business letter. Just axia folks. I have no idea what to do for the final.

  • sociology -

Uh Oh! I have Com215 next. maybe you could help since you will have comments back from the instructor. :)

  • sociology -

Michael the final is in combination with the eth class, which is also a hard final, that's the final I need help with. The com 215 final is a power point presentation. I can't wait to get to an accounting class.

  • com215 -

how do we do the powerpoint presentation that hooks in with eth125 class this final is a tough one and i am lost all the way around

  • sociology -

chris, i'm taking classes one at a time. After the first two i got too stressed and my counsler could tell. I work more than full time study more than most and have raised a daughter by myself for the past 7 years (she just started college). so now my plate is full. For the final in ETH i'm just telling about my community and neighborhood. it isn't like the book, it's nice here and from what i can tell everyone likes or doesn't hate anyone (criminals excluded). I found stats on race, income, educatuon housing and so forth. I try to refer back to the text where i can but it's not easy.

  • sociology -

That's right - even Axia instructors have access to the Internet, folks! For the record, I think ETH 125 is a valuable course and urge you to think about these vital issues with an open mind. Enlightenment is the real benefit of education. Now get back to work and NO CHEATING! :)

  • sociology -

There's no cheating here (i don't think):). Just students needing help and helping each other where they can. on-line study is not easy. You've read about our frustrations and where we need help so jump into the conversation and help us.

  • ETH125 -

This has still got to be one of the coolest websites to just stumble across. I have had this site bookmarked for awhile and still get a smile out of it whenever I visit. GO ETH125!!!!

  • ETH125 -

Hello guys am glad am not the only one that have the same problem in ETH125 its hard and am taken it over again but it is not a prize. I've been there before that Necolla Teboa what ever her name is gave me a run for my money. but anyway am in my second week and its getting drastic in my area.

if u would read ur text it would help you out a lot. 9LOL)

  • sociology -

Seriously. Can't anyone here use their brains? Is it that hard to Google "calculate prejudice"? People are so dumb. I am revolted by how helpless and idiotic people are. No one that posts these "cheater" threads deserves a college degree. If you can't do your own homework, having access to the internet as easily as everyone does, you are a dunce and do not deserve to succeed in the real world. TRY before CHEATING. Whatta concept!

  • sociology -

why would you be so revolted by helpless and idiotic people. Is it because you are so smart.

  • sociology -

Sarah you are totally out of line with that response. Obviously you don't deserve a degree either you are on this same site too. So what did you just stumble on it to make negative comments how can one judge. Don't come back to the site if you think that we are all cheaters . There is nothing wrong with helping one another. Do you ask your friends or associates for help with your work ? If so then you are a cheater to so don't judge screw off!

  • sociology -

I can only laugh! How freakin' funny that everyone at Axia doing their ETH125 homework trying to see what they can find on the net hits this site. Thanks for the tips (yes, they are just tips - because it does not tell you what it says in Chp2 pg34.) Good luck to all current and future ETH125 students :)

  • sociology -

Sarah, you are a hipocrite for even clicking on this site's link! So far nobody that I have read has cheated. Giving help as to where to look for an answer is not cheating. Obviously you did not know where to look either and that is why you are here and even read this far down the page! Now why don't you go do your own work all by yourself and see how far you get without Google-ing any more links in search for answers to your Axia courses! Signed, an (wait for it) an Axia student =0)

  • eths125 -

dont have answer just so confused about these 2 classes i am n right now gurrr they are tough ones

  • sociology -

Sarah sweety, take a chill pill. We did google "calculate prejudice", just like you did, and found this site. I think its nice to commiserate with others having the same trouble, to know we're not alone.

Everyone, good luck. I'm entering week Nine and am pretty good shape for my final projects. Future students of ETH125 or COM215, just remember to breathe!!! :D

  • eth125 -

why are you so revolted by idiotic and helpless people. Is it because you are so smart? If so, you should leave googling for the idiotic and helpless!!!

  • sociology -

Hey, all some good answers here!
Bogardus Social Distance Scale and Allports Scale of Prejudice and Discrimination Summated Difference Technique.

But trust me you probably don't have to get in this deep to answer this question.
    Its only a CP.
    What is it actually worth?

  • sociology -

I am a student @ Axia too. Thanks for the input.

  • Axia Eth -

    Sarah,

It is called research no matter what. Are all of the answers in your text? I wish you all of the luck and I am happy that you live in a perfect world. Oh, and by the way if the rest of the people in the real world are like you, I chose fantasy.

  • sociology -

I think she's gone now and the instructor never came back. I just finished ETH 125 and got an 'A'. Surprised the heck out of me. Looking back i think we see more work than there really is. I went overboard on all my assignments, especially in this class. I'm in COM 215 now and am finding it interesting. Good luck to us idiotic and helpless people!

  • ETH125 -

This website is hilarious! It's an Axia support group..at least for those of us in Ethics 125. :)

  • ETH 125 -

OMG this is FREAKING hilarious!!!!!!! Ethics 125 here as well, looking for other ways to measure prejudice! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • ETH 125 -

Another AXIA student looking for ways to measure prejudice. This is soooo funny! Everyone have a great weekend!

  • sociology -

LOL wow Go AXIA!!! Funny but sad at the same time lol

  • ETH125 and COM 215 -

I don't have any answers but I do have a question. If anyone is reading this that is in COM215 I need some help. I am so confused about the assignment that's due Sunday, writing the letter for either scenario number 1 or 2. I do not understand how to use persuation to my advantage when dealing with the bank scenario. Persuade them to do what? I already know what I want...then on the trip cancellation scenario it says to think about how to make the most of the situation or think of alternatives. I thought I was just messenger...oh dear...these two classes are really challenging me...I actually feel like I'm not as smart as I thought I was...isn't this something that I should easily be able to do?

  • ETH125 and COM 215 -

Lola, I hope this helps. We had to choose one for the exercise not both. Check your instructions. If I'm right you job just got easier. The book describes ways to respond to bad news. How to give it, e-mail, letter,… pick one, pick a scenario and start writing in bullet form, like in a presentation, the points you want to make (what’s wrong, how it happened where to go from here). Then add in positive points. It’s all in the chapters. Once you’ve done that you can start to organize it the way it would look as if you were receiving the news. Re-read it and modify it. In the end you want the reader and you to finish feeling positive about the information. You can’t just say, you lost one hundred dollars, talk to later. If you have the chapters saved on your computer they will be in pdf format. That software has a search tool at the top. I use it every chapter to skim for information. By the way I chose the bank problem. Thinking about it all week long and worked on it 4 hours on a Saturday. But I felt the same way as you until I finished.

  • ETH125 and COM 215 -

I feel the same way about this Sunday's assignment. I barely got through our last one with that table. I think I'm just thinking too much with some of these assignments at times. Just remember to breathe and that we can do it or we wouldn't be pursuing a college degree. Good luck!

  • ETH -

I also am taking the ETH from Axia..

  • sociology -

im in axia also.. anyone find any good answers?

  • sociology -

another one from ETH125 and I'm also in COM215 lol... Good luck to everyone, I also did not agree with the results of the test I took, I think they trick you on purpose!!!

  • eth125 Axia -

nice to see we are all in the same boat. I love this class though. I am also in the second week of this class.

Week two I think the class is great. When I first googled and saw your names I thought it was a joke. Going to chapter 34. Good Luck to all

  • sociology -

It is great to see Axia still here. I have moved on to HUM130 and am in my third week here. Unfortunately I did not keep all my assignments. I have however kept a good many of them. I ended up with an A- for the class but it was because of procrastination.I will check back here from time to time and if I can give anyone help I will be happy to..Be careful though our teachers know about this site and you can get caught for plagarism. Good luck to everyone!

    how can prejudice be measured

  • sociology -

I hope this helps.I had Ms. Aron for Ethics.
I do believe that it is difficult to accurately measure prejudice. Some of the things that we associate with each other on a day to day basis have been there for so long that many of us do not even think about it. A good example of this is Colonel Sanders with Kentucky Fried Chicken. Here we have a restaurant portraying a southern plantation owner as the fonder of a fried chicken franchise. I guess no one has made the connection yet.
Bogardus scale is a scale that sociologists use to determine the willingness of people to interact with certain racial and ethnic groups.
Allport’s Scale is another way that sociologist measure prejudices. It is a scale that measures the appearance of prejudice in society. It was created by psychologist Gordon Allport in 1954 (Wikipedia Encyclopedia, 2007)

  • sociology -

Thanks for the tips becuz i really do appreciated it. After I finish up I will be going to my 3rd week.

    Veeta (LoL)

  • sociology -

This is so funny.I am attending Axia College also and taing ETH125 and COM215. I think the COM215 class is pretty difficult and I stress over the assignments. This site proves that great minds think alike.

  • sociology -

I am glad I came across this page, I do not feel do bad now. I begining to thing there is something funny about this. Good look to everyone. I am also in ETH125 and COM215

  • sociology -

Me too, and I hate this class, maybe it is not the class but the teacher, not sure yet! Cannot seem to get a straight answer, it is driving me crazy. Everything is to vague, the syllabus, the teachers comments, I just cannot get a grasp.

  • sociology -

I hope this helps everyone. I had Ms. Aron for Ethics.

    JM,

Maybe a little history lesson is in order. Harland Sanders (A.K.A. Colonel Sanders) was a restaurant owner in Louisville Ky, he never owned a plantion. The title Colonel was given to him by the Governor of Ky. for his contributions in the culinary field.

  • sociology -

I am also a Com215 and ETH125 student at axia. I just thought that my last classes were hard. This is definently the hardest block of classes yet. The assignments seem harder than they actually are. ( I hope ayway.) If anyone has any advice on the ETH125 final project I would greatly appreciate it. I am really worried about this class. Actually I am really worried about both of these classes.

  • sociology -

Hello I am also in ETH 125 at Axia It is weird how we all ended up on this page. Thanks for the help.

  • sociology -

Hi I am also in week 2 ethics 125 so we all know where to come for help

  • sociology -

okay i hear everyone discussing the eth class about how you measure prejudice and yall said some pages in chapter two, but i think i have a different book, what is the title on your book

  • sociology -

I am also in Eth 125 and I am wondering about this journal entry of a subordinate group member. Any ideas how to portray an immigrant?

  • Ethics -

Wow! Hello fellow frustrated classmates!! And to that "Sarah" person: I don't think we're "idiots" for posting here. I agree that a lot of these assignments are vague with exactly how much to answer with or how to structure the answer. We can email our instructors, but it's a learning process; plus I'm sure a lot of us feel embarrassed to ask (as if we would come off as being idiots). I know that our instructors would not be that insensitive or shallow, though. Sarah, why so angry? ;)

  • sociologyeth125 -

This class is driving me crazy, the infromation in the syllabus is vague. then when you do the assignment it was not the right information, wonder why. I have carol sommers, she is never straight to the point, she lost credibility with me at the beginning, I will be glad to finish this class.

  • sociology -

WOW I Thought I was the only one in this class this block!!!! I have Debra Bloom, and she is just as vague as your instructor Thumper!!! I can't wait for week 9! Goooodddd Luck to all, especially future students who happen to find this page....LOL!

  • sociology -

This was really insightful and amazing, thank you for all of your help and information. Just wanted to say that U of P Axia is great!

  • sociology -

Eth/125 Sucks!! These questions make no sense, everything is so vague. I hope that my class also finds this site! Maybe we will be able to help one another through this crazy class!! Good Luck to all!! I cannot wait to get the heck out of this ethics class.

  • sociology -

    WOW!!!!...I LIKE THIS

  • sociology -

I'm taking the this class at AXIA and this link has helped me a lot.

  • Eth/125 -

I am also with AXIA and on page 34 there is only ONE example of other ways to calculate prejudice. Ther only answer that page gives is video games specially designed to measure people's "split" answers.

  • sociology -

I as well am in ETH 125 at Axia and I detest this particular week. I also agree about the IAT test. The results are invalid on my end. I found one way its called AllPort's Scale, its used to measure prejudice in a society. I know this isn't much but I hope it helps. I think someone else mentioned this earlier.

  • sociology -

Axia student too! So far I'v been making a's. Up until now I should say. I'll be back if I find an answer.

  • sociology -

Yes I'm glad that we were searching for the answers, but teachers would not give assignments that would not have answers. We have to look in our reading per week as one student stated to find the answers to the questions.

  • sociology/ETH125 -

Hi all, all I can say about this is WOW what a site. You are all pretty great.

In a response to Michael's response, I agree that THIS teacher wouldn't post assignments that have no answers, however if it was like Philosophy or something that may be true. HA-HA. Seriously however, we're not in high school any longer, and therefore the questions are harder and require more research and unmasking to find the answer. I am in my third block of courses and I am finding the classes to get harder each block. I like that it's making me think, but during the process I'm finding that with Axia being online, without study groups I think some of us (or at least myself)could suffer greatly without the support of others.

    Thoughts?

    Batty

  • sociology/ETH125 -

I agree with you,, on this,,,"without study groups I think some of us (or at least myself)could suffer greatly without the support of others." I am having a hard time also,,but I believe I had found the answers, but it is like you had said, by doing a lot of research, and thinking power,,,lol a lot of thinking power.

  • sociology/ETH125 -

    ME TOO...AXIA!

I concur; self-study is fine for many, not me. I believe that I obtain much more knowledge in a group setting, group-study...group blah, blah, blah.

On another note: I have a wacko of an Instructor, no..."DOCTOR" who appears to make up her own rules. If you do not cite something to support your statements (even with regard to PERSONAL OPINION), she does not honor that you have read the weekly course material.

  • Eyh125 -

I am in Eth 125 and I really do not like this class

  • ETH/125 -

Hello fellow AXIA students. I am also a student at AXIA and in my second week of ETH/125. I have enjoyed the class however finding the answers have seem to get harder. This same question is kicking my butt but I will get past it. Thanks to everyone who has provided guidance on this question.

  • sociology -

Page 34 in my chapter 2 says nothing about other measurement used to calculate prejudice... axia u of p student week 2 ethics/125.

Cristy, did you have any luck??

  • sociology -

Well, I see that I am not the only one from Axia College of University of Pheonix that wound up here. I am in ETH/125 also, second week. I am having a hard time finding an answer to this question also.

  • sociology -

OH my word this is a great thread!!! Thank you all for letting me know that I am not the only one that hate this class and it only been 2 weeks LOL I am going to reread page 34, 38 39 to see what i miss thanks all

  • sociology -

OH my word this is a great thread!!! Thank you all for letting me know that I am not the only one that hate this class and it only been 2 weeks LOL I am going to reread page 34, 38 39 to see what i miss thanks all well after reading further on I read this on page 47
    The Social Distance Scale
Robert Park and Ernest Burgess first defined social distance as the tendency to
approach or withdraw from a racial group (1921:440). Emory Bogardus (1968) conceptualized
a scale that could measure social distance empirically. His social distance
scale is so widely used that it is often called the Bogardus scale.
The scale asks people how willing they would be to interact with various racial and
ethnic groups in specified social situations. The situations describe different degrees
of social contact or social distance. The seven items used, with their corresponding
distance scores, follow. People are asked whether they would be willing to admit each
    group
¡ To close kinship by marriage (1.00)
¡ To my club as personal chums (2.00)
¡ To my street as neighbors (3.00)
¡ To employment in my occupation (4.00)
¡ To citizenship in my country (5.00)
¡ As only visitors to my country (6.00)
¡ Would exclude from my country (7.00)
A score of 1.00 for any group would indicate no social distance and therefore no
prejudice. The social distance scale has been administered to many different groups
in other countries as well. Despite some minor flaws and certain refinements needed
in the scale, the results of these studies are useful and can be compared.
The data in Table 2.2 summarize the results of studies using the social distance
scale in the United States at three points in time over a 65-year period. In the top
third of the hierarchy are White Americans and northern Europeans. In the middle
are eastern and southern Europeans, and generally near the bottom are racial
minorities. This prestige hierarchy resembles the relative proportions of the various
    groups in the population.
    social distance
    Tendency to approach or
    withdraw from a racial group.
    Bogardus scale
    Technique to measure social
    distance toward different
    racial and ethnic groups.

  • ETH125 -

Hello,, Yes, I am stumped on that question also....

  • sociology -

I think this assignment is stupid especially this question. How are we supposed to know the answer to this? It does not tell you where to find this at and it's not in our readings. I think it's crazy that people have been talking about this same question for two years now.

  • Eth125 -

I am working on my Week2- Day5 Checkpoint. Just completed my test also. This is how I feel about it: The test was interesting and I like this class but this question I don't believe there s a real answer.

  • eth125 -

Sociologists have several different ways to measure prejudice, such as Robert Merton (1949, 1976); who categorizes attitudes and behaviors, Richard LaPiere (1934, 1969) calculates the relationship between racial attitudes and social conduct. Other theories found to measure prejudice are “exploitation and normative”. Exploitation is probably just as prevalent in today’s society, (companies hiring women at a lower wage than a similarly educated man would be hired); as normative where (a child has a tendency to show prejudice only because of the families belief).
Don't forget to cite the reference **ch.2 Racial and Ethnic Groups, Tenth Edition, by Richard T. Schaefer. Published by Prentice-Hall.

I am having trouble on that question also,, but I had read what you had written,, is that what she is wanting or something about the measuring or calculation of prejudice?

    Hummm

  • ETH125 At AXIA College -

I used, The Social Distance Scale pg.47. It helped a lot. There are other pages that one can use too. Pg. 34 and LePiere teston pg.39. Good luck to all.

  • ETH125 At AXIA College -

I had got some info out of the text, but was not sure of what types of info she is wanting, I had assumed it was to do with calculation the prejudice in the communities.

  • sociology -

This is a great site! I am laughing so hard that we all found each other looking for the same answer.
Many of you are right. I am not sure there is always a "right" answer in this class. As long as the grading is not too harsh I am fine with it.
Week 2 too early to tell.
    Best luck to everyone!

  • ETH/125 At AXIA College -

Thank you good luck to you also.

  • sociology -

What are some measurements sociologist use to calculate prejudice?

  • ethics -

I found this website via google. I am the ethics class at UoP myself. Second week of class at well. I didn't know where to go. This popped up and seems to have given me a lot of useful information. Thank you to all previous students in ETH/125.

  • ETH/125 At AXIA College -

I am here also,, just as lost and confused as the rest of you.

  • sociology -

I too am an Axia student in ETH/125 and it is my third block. I agree that this is college and we have to dig deep to find the answers, but my goodness I never thought it would be this hard! I am 30 and have a full time job, a husband and kids, and a home to take care of; all this reading is making me crazy! Between this class and my Com/215 class, I don't have any time with my family and I keep falling asleep reading the assigned reading. I find the instructions vague as well, I am so frustrated. This is my third block and I have all A's so far, but I doubt I will be able to say that after these two classes!

  • sociology -

I am also in Axia ETH/125 Week 2. I found what I think is the answer on Ch 2 Pg 34. The answer was extremely difficult to find. The COM class is difficult but you can do it!

  • sociology -

    Hi All,
There is such an interest to learn being displayed here. At times the road may get difficult, but just keep on keeping on. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel.

    Good Luck to all!

  • sociology -

I don't know how I stumbled on this web site, looking for answer of the question everybody else is looking for. But I sure as glad to see that I am not the only one that has problems with these questions. I hate this class and we are only on the 2nd week. I have a A - b average but it will probably go down hill after this class. Have you seen the final project.

  • sociology -

This has got to be the funniest thing, cause I did not intend to see so many people from Axia with the same question as me. But thanks to all for the suggestions and I did find an answer on page 47, the Bogardus scale check it out.

  • eth125 -

decribe other measurements sociologists use to calculate prejudice

  • ETH 125 -

OMG! I definitly see that I am not alone. LOL and LOL again. This has been the best "discussion question" that I have ever read.

  • Eth125 Cultural Diversity -

I had the same questions how to measure prejudice. I think it is pretty amazing that I am also an Axia student. I also stumbled onto this site. I am glad there is a lot of us out here. Thanks for the help and commeratory.

  • ETH 125 -

This is also my second week in eth125 at axia!!!! I cant believe I found others that are taking or have taken the same class as I am. Thanks for all your help everyone.

  • ETH 125 -

Another Axia student here. In my second week and hate the class all ready. Is the class really soing to help me lol???

  • eth 125 -

Hey thanks for the help!!! I just stumbled upon this site by accident!!! I see a lot of my classmates fond it also

  • Eth 125 -

WOW! It's crazy we ya'll ended up here! Thanks for the Help!

  • sociology -

How in the hell am I supposed to know what other measurements sociologist use to calculate prejudice. I can see this is going to be another weird class. I put I don't know, sorry.

  • sociology -

Hello fellow class mates of AXIA!!!. I too am in Eth 125 and sci 275. I feel the classes are much harder and I keep over doing the assignments thinking I'm not answereing the questions correctly. I found some answeres in the reading on pages 34,39 and 47. I did not feel the IAT was an accurate test either. Its good to know I'm not the only one having some trouble in this class. I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • sociology -

    hello lee,

I am in these classes now, and I find them to be very difficult. When posting my assignments, it appears I do not read instruction correctly. I have to agree with you all regarding the IAT test, they are not accurate. My question is; Who grades these test, and how do they come to the conclusion they do?

  • sociology -

Some measurments used are the University of Calorado did a study using video games and the results were, the majority of whites reacted to the pictures of black men with a weapon more so than a white man with a weapon. Other ways are using the statistics from hate crimes, education , employed and unemployed.

  • sociology -

While theories regarding social prejudice have been developed and do exist, conceivably theories cannot measure prejudice. For the answer on what measurements sociologists use to calculate prejudice, we must delve deeper. In addition to the IAT, sociologists use the concept of social distance. The concept of social distance calculates (measures) the extents to which people are willing to interact and establish relationships with individuals of racial and ethnic groups. “The social distance scale is especially appropriate to assess differences in prejudice.” (Schaefer, 2006) The Bogardus scale: “Emory Bogardus (1968) conceptualized a scale that could measure social distance empirically. Despite some minor flaws and certain refinements needed in the scale, the results of these studies are useful and can be compared.” (Schaefer, 2006)

Socialists may also choose to design tests, surveys from and questionnaires that measure among other feelings: self-esteem, mood, bias, and etcetera. Additionally, sociologists can obtain information compiled under Hate Crime Statistics Act.

  • sociology -

That is funny that everyone is in ETH125 at Axia. Me, too. Thanks for the help guys!

  • sociology -

Wow, I can not wait till this class is over with. Second week and I hate it already

  • ETH125 -

Class is not that bad... I'm stuggling a little bit myself, but if you read the material, it's all in there... Except, I'm like everyone else googling.... ; )

  • ethics -

thansk for the help i'll read chapter 2 also from axia haha the teacher can log in too there goes our fun

  • sociology -

Unbelievable! so many of us on week two but cant find the answer to that questions!
    Thanks for the help!!

  • Ethics -

This was so AWESOME! I was so surprised and shocked when I came across this website. I am also a Axia student. Thanks for the help! I really enjoyed reading the posts here and I am glad that I am not the only one who has problems with finding the information. Thanks! This is great!!

  • Com215 -

Is anybody in Com215 as well? I have gotten straight A's so far... Until this class. I don't find the material very intuitive at all. Not to mention the ethics class.

  • sociology -

Yet another Axia Ethics ponderer...I have to agree with at least two pages of students here, I think we are all over analyzing this question. Just answer to the best of your personal ability. I think the instructors get a big kick out of looking at threads like this. Instead of looking at the class as kickin' your butt, look at what it motivates you to do!! Study!
    Enjoy!!

  • ETH 125 -

    Hello

I am an Axia student in my second week of Ethics. Thanks a lot for the information. Good luck to all.

  • sociology -

I am also an Axia student taking this Ethics class. I know the answers are in the reading material...The reading material is just so boring!I try to read it but I just got off work and I just want to go to bed. lol! That is why I am here...

  • sociology -

    Friday August 29, 2008

I am also a student at Axia in Eth/125.2nd week
I think the answers may be: conventional attitude surveys, observations, questionaires, and experiments. That's all I got from the text. I also found the IAT to be invalid.

  • sociology -

I came across this web page by accident. Glad to know I am not the only one searching for answeres. I also found the IAT to be invalid. I have taken it multiple times with differnt outcomes.

  • sociology -

I think that the IAT IS accurate. I just think that to many of us are willing to be honest with ourself. Anyway, I need some help finding the other ways of measuring prejudice also.

    Go U of P

  • ETH/125 -

I don't think that the results from the IAT is accurate. It was just basically based on how fast you answered the question. Honestly, I didn't like taking the because of inaccurate results.

  • ETH/125 -

I couldn't find any answer on page 34 in ch. 2, but the answer is on page 47 of ch. 2.

  • ETH/125 -

Ok AXIA here too. All I have to say is I'm sick of Instructors saying "to make things easier don't post this way post that way and we can all figure it out." Bull, every single Instructor has asked for me to do it differently and it is confusing as hell!

  • sociology -

I also am enrolled in Axia College. I guess we all had the same idea of where to go. That is so funny!!!!

  • sociology -

Describe other measurements sociologists use to calculate prejudice.

  • sociology -

I am also an Axia student. We are all in week 2 when we encounter this question. The syllabus never changes.

  • sociology -

    wow this is so cool

  • sociology -

Hey I see everyone meets here for this quetion. How funny is that. I just posted my homework I will see what I get

  • sociology -

It is funny this is where everyone goes, I was looking for the same thing. Thanks guys for the tip.

  • ETH/125 -

Hello I am also an Axia College student. I took that IAT test. I am still looking for different measurements of prjudice.

  • ethics -

I found the answers in the chapters we were supposed to read for wk 2, fellow Axia students, but I'm trying to find a little more so I can get my words up to 200.

  • Ethics - AXIA !!!! -

I am also an AXIA student in ETH 125, very interesting but hard at points. So now I know where everyone is hanging out. I just googled and came across this site! HOW WEIRD!!!! Good Luck Everyone!! Talk to you soon.

  • sociology -

Very interesting. I came across this specific page while trying to find more information regarding testing methods for prejudice. I guess I know where Axia students go for homework help now. Indeed, this question is still the same question, due Friday in week two of the ETH 125 class. I see the syllabus doesn't change often. I wonder if the instructors are given questions to ask us when trying to involve us in the discussion questions after our original posts?
Stick with the Allports and Bogradus references, but you can also throw in Adorno if you want to research that.
Also, COMM classes kind of suck, but they do server their purposes. Just remember to spell check and pay attention to you grammar. I think COMM 220 was the worst, and I about poked my eyeball out with a fork just to get out of the class, but ended up with an A-, so I figured it was worth it. Plus I didn't want to have to take it again!

    Good Luck to everyone.

  • sociology -

Im in the same class as well ETH125. you think that they woul dchange so that no one would copy papers. as in com classes they are easy, well that is if you lik etoy write my other class in SCI275 good luck in finding the answers i know that i got mine. LOL

  • sociology -

I also found this site looking for methods to reference, ETH125, excellent resource for all of us.

  • sociology -

    no kidding

  • Eth125 -

that sarah girl has a problem enough about her thanks guys you all were very helpful and funny thanks for the laugh too

  • sociology -

Too funny! I too am an Axia student. I too did research to try to understand what the crap the other methods that sociologists used to calculate prejudice was. This thread was very helpful. Thanks All!

  • Eth 125 cultural diversity -

what differentiates the act of grouping people from the act of stereotyping?how can stereotyping affect group relations?give an example of a stereotype you find in everyday life

  • ETH/125 -

Lets keep this thread going, we can help each other

  • sociology -

Think I am going to bookmark this one. Funny how it has been going on so long!

  • sociology -

wow, sarah has some anger issues and if I understand what we have learned in ethics/125 in the past week she is not only prejudice but also I believe she is stereotyping us!

good luck I am sure we all will do fine!

  • ETH 125 Cultural Diversity -

I have yet to find an answer, and yes I'm an Axia student too. In wk 2 ETH 125. I like this I kinda found it by trying to help find an answer to the same question everyone else is. What is other ways to measure for calculated prejudice. Have fun all.

  • Cultural Diversity -

Hello im a student at axia as well taking ETH 125 and im just laughing my butt off, because im feeling what everybody is saying HEEELP!!!

  • sociology -

Hey Sarah, I find it a tad ironic that you are telling everyone else to use their brains when you post this: "Whatta concept!"

    - Yeah, that's proper grammar!

Next time try posting something gramatically correct and you might make sense.

  • sociology -

    Now your papers are late!!!

  • sociology -

Well another Axia student here, having the same issue. Week 2 day five.... I read chapter 2 and still nothing. I have noticed a couple instructors posting replys, they see how many of us are struggling with the same problem but they offered no real help!!!! I can not wait for this class to be OVER!!!!

  • sociology -

you didn't tell me any other measurements so how am i supposed to tell you any others

  • sociology -

I am taking this class and so far things are pretty good I have not been asked how a person measures anything

  • Eth 125 -

The IAT Test was one measurement.

I am glad to see that there is a place that we can all come and help each other!

  • ETH125 -

I am Axia too! Amazing how long this thread has been running! Off to check pages 34 and 47 of the text!

  • sociology -

I am also an axia student is is funny I was googling th web for an answer and came across this web site. I am just glad to see that i am not the only one having problems Lol thank all for the pages. best of luck in yall education

  • ETH215 -

Funny that i found this site, to know thatI am not alone! :)

  • ETH 125 -

Fellow AXIA student here as well. This is so funny that this post has been going for 3 years. I am going to reread chapter 2 to see if I had missed something. Thanks for everyone's input.

  • sociology -

    This is too funny wow!

  • ETH 125 -

I don't believe it! Hi everyone (Axia)I ended up here also. I think it is a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants-answer!
How about this for a test for prejudice-
You see a group of people who are wearing 'colors' and have 'member tattoos'and their pants are baggy and hung low.
A-you proceed towards the group(not prejudiced, just dead)
    B-you run(prejudiced, but alive)

  • sociology -

ETH 125 pg. 34 of the text does help. and i think the test results were B S !!

  • Cultural Diversity -

It is amazing to see that a Google search in 2009 had a first hit that brought me to fellow Axia students taking a class with a different name, but same number ETH/125, from as far back as July 2006. The question is still the same "describe other measurements sociologists use to calculate prejudice". I read the chapter and took notes and there were no stand out answers to this question, so I like many before chose to use Google. I am going to try some of the suggestions here, thanks for the like-mindedness to make me feel better about not understanding this question.

  • sociology -

Axia also. So we are all here but still no anwer to the question? this is a tough class but not as hard as the SCI275. that is confusing.

  • sociology ETH/125 -

This is too funny, everyon here is from Axia U Of P pretty much_ That's how i go there!!!

  • Tickets -

    I really enjoyed it.
I am from Bulgaria and learning to speak English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Rates on asia hotels, cheap asian airline tickets, vacation packages, last minute asia tickets shows."

Like many of you were; I also am a little confused at this point!! :-) Pretty funny we all ended up on this page! Ill have to bookmark this page to see how it grows over time! Its hard not adding your name after seeing this many people saying they have the same problem!

  • sociology -

I just had to give my two cents I am also in Axia Eth125. This is too good makes me feel relieved that I am not he only one that looks this stuff up. oh yea. I think they need to start updating the syllabus. lol

  • sociology -

The Social Distance Scale..That is another measurement that they use...pg 47 chapter 2 if you want to look it up too :)

  • sociology -

    Man do I feel normal.

  • sociology -

Wow. Here it is 2009 and this thread is still going. I did the same google search and found this thread. Unbelievable. That IAT was dumb.

  • sociology -

I agree page 34 of the test. Regarding the University of Colorado test they did

  • sociology -

Everyone has been helpful. UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX IN DA HOUSE. The answer is on page 47 of chapter 2. The borgardus scale is another measurement sociologist use to measure prejudice.

  • sociology -

This is crazy I am in eth 125 at Axia and it is 2009. I can not find the answer either, but after reading your comments I will be looking in chapter 2 Pg 34,39.and 47. As the chain moves forward

  • sociology -

No real answer, guys. At Axia too so I probably have all of you in class. Took the IAT and had to agree. It said I didn't care one way or the other. And that is true, with the one I took. See ya.

  • sociology -

Describe other measurements sociologists use to calculate prejudice.

  • Ethics -

Hello! I found some answers in Chapter 2. Scientist use questionaires, Authorian personality tests, and the exploitation theory

  • Anti allergic -

Your site is very convenient in navigation and has good design. Thanks!.
I am from Guinea and too poorly know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Background tmk is being developed as an anti allergic drug having both lipoxygenase inhibitory activity and anti histamine activity.Suppliers of anti allergic medicines, antiallergic drugs manufacturing."

    With love 8), Von.

  • sociology -

If you just read the mateerial provided you'll find your answers. Come one this is laziness people! Just read!!

  • sociology -

I am too can anyone help us or are we all screwed on this question?

  • Healthcare Administration -

I think this IAT test is ridiculous! It's obviously made so that most people get the results "moderately prejudiced". I am in ETH125 at Axia as well, and don't see how this class really applies to my degree (Healthcare Administration)

  • sociology -

GUESS WHAT??I am an AXIA student as well! Week two ETH125!I think this class is pretty interesting, except for these types of questions.WHO CARES?If I wanted to know how sociologist calculated prejudice-I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUDYING TO BE A SOCIOLOGIST!GRRRRRRRR All this crap, just for healthcare

  • sociology -

wow so many people from axia eth125 I like the class but have a hard time finding answers sometimes

  • sociology -

I feel you guys on week 2. I'm still trying to answer to week 2.I look at Chapter 2 p.34 nothing. Is this some kind of joke.

  • sociology -

I happen to stumble accross this website and it is funny that it is still here after so many years...and that I am in Axia college and this is my week2 ethics course. • sociology -

  • sociology -

Me too me too.. I am not liking this class at all. Good luck all future students!

  • sociology -

The answers that you are looking for are in the text in Chapter 2 on pages 34-47. There are several ways to calculate prejudice. There is the Robert Merton way of catergorizing individuals, the Lapiere's Study, then there are even different theories that play a part.

  • sociology -

I am in this class also, and was looking for the same question!!! Thanks for the answers!! I thought I thought i was the only one too!

  • sociology -

Describe other measurements sociologists utilize to calculate prejudice. wow UOP 2nd week ethnics...

  • sociology -

I think the best answer is I'm not exactly sure how sociologist calculate prejudice given that it is an individual level construct and it seems that sociology focuses more on a macro level. That said, social psychology has some "racism" instruments that are basically Likert scales that the respondent completes. Some of the instruments that focus on the possibility that respondents may try to conceal their biases ask an exhaustive amount of questions with the intention that the respondents' real answers will eventually reveal themselves.
A growing number of prejudice researchers are using the IAT (implicit-association-test) to measure prejudice, and is growing in use by HR screeners with some controversy. It is immensely difficult for a subject to game this test, even with scores of repeated attempts, so the results are "honest". The question is what exactly do the results suggest
I am an AXIA student also, guess we can all meet here and vent lol. Good luck guys.

  • sociology -

I am in the same class eth/125.. still looking for the answer but thought I would say hi to the fellow Axia students.. HI good luck to all of you..

This is like our own little chat room lol!!! It's amazing how many people go to the internet to find help and everyone from the same class ends up in the same place!

Yep another Axia Student in ETH125. I agree Carrie it is like a little chat room and I think it is cool that we have advice from previous students. I wold call this a study group.
