The tension in the cable supporting a 4900N elevator is 3800N. What is the acceleration of the elevator?

  1. mass = mg/g = 4900/9.81 = 500 Kg

    a = acceleration down

    m a = 4900 -3800
    so
    500 a = 1100
    a = 2.2 m/s^2 DOWN
