  2. Actually, since you posted this as arithmetic, let me try to give an explanation without algebra. Let's say you just had 1 of each coin. Then, you would have a total of 0.25 + 0.1 + 0.05 + 0.01 = 1.23. Now if you had any other number of each type of coin, you would end up with a multiple (2, 3, 4... times) of 1.23. One of the options you have is not, so that's the answer.
