  1. 2|3x-5|-8 = 8.
    Isolate the bracket:
    2|3x-5| = 8+8
    2|3x-5| = 16
    Divide both sides by 2:
    |3x-5| = 8
    The number whose|8| can be +- 8:
    3x-5 = +-8
    3x = +-8 + 5
    3x = 8+5 =13
    X = 13/3.

    3x = -8 + 5 = -3
    X = -1.

    Solution set: X = -1, and X = 13/3.
