What is the equation for calculating how much heat energy calories transferred to or from a mass of water?

  1. If equal amounts of liquid water are mixed, the resulting temperature is the average of the two. If the samples are in different phases, such as melting ice, the situation is more complicated. Heats of fusion or vaporization must then be taken into account.
