Between two points P1(x1,y1) and P2(x2,y2), the distance can be calculated by the equation derived from Pythagoras theorem:

distance = √((x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²).

For question (a)
P1(4,3) means x1=4, y1=3
P2(8,12) means x2=8, y2=12
So
Distance = √((8-4)²+(12-3)^sup2;)
=√(16+81)
=√97
