How does air within winter clothing keep you warm on cold winter days?

1. ummm... your body gives off heat and warm up the air and the warm air just circulate around your body inside your cloth to keep you warm?

2. Air does not conduct heat very well. For that reason your body heat does not pass through the air in your clothes very fast and you stay warm.
However, to work the air has to be still. If it is allowed to move it will convect (as opposed to conduct) the heat away quickly. Therefore clothes not only have to hold a lot of air to keep you warm, but the air has to be prevented from moving around much.

3. cause the air comes in thermal equlibrium with your body... and it depends upon the heat that your body looses...i guess so.
