What is the effect of cyclohexane as the solvent in the electrophilic aromatic substitution of acetanilide by bromine?

  1. We haven't been ignoring the question. We just don't have an organic chemist on board. Cyclohexane is a non-polar solvent. You need to look in your text or notes concerning the substitution of Br onto the ring or alkyl group of acetanilide. Under some conditions the Br substitutes onto the ring and in some conditions it substitutes onto the alkyl part of an attached chain. I hope this points you in the right direction. If this is an experiment you performed it might help if you told us what you did and the product you obtained.
