A speedboat increases its speed uniformly from v1 = 20 m/s to vf = 26 m/s in a distance of 1.60 102 m.

Substitute given values, obtaining the acceleration.

Find the time it takes the boat to travel the given distance.

  1. Vf^2 = Vo + 2ad,
    a = (Vf^2 - Vo^2) / 2d,
    a = ((26)^2 - (24)^2) / 320 = 0.8625.

    Vf = Vo + at,
    t = (Vf - Vo) / a,
    t = (26 - 20) / 0.6625 = 6.96s.
