  1. Look up the electronegativities of each pair of elements. For example, BCl3.
    B = about 2
    Cl = about 3.
    Take the difference which is about 1.
    If the difference is about 1.7 or so, the bond is 50% ionic/50% covalent. So BCl is a covalent bond (or you could call it a polar covalent) depending upon how your instructor ranks the difference in EN. Tne others are done the same way. Some instructors call anyting above delta EN 1.7 ionic and those below as covalent. AT 1.0, BCl3 is about 75% covalent/25% ionic.
    Cl2 obviously, has a difference of zero so it is essentially purely covalent.
