a triangular road sign has a height of 8 feet and a base of 16.5 feet. How much larger in ares is this sign than one with a height of 4 feet and a base of 8.25 feet?

  2. You know the area of a triangle is A=1/2bh. So, to find how much larger the 2nd triangle is compared to the first, you would first find the area of the first triangle.

    Area of 1st triangle:
    A=1/2bh
    A=1/2(16.5)(8)
    A=66 feet

    Then find the area of the second triangle:
    A=1/2bh
    A=1/2(8.25)(4)
    A=16.5 feet

    You know the two areas, so therefore you would take the difference of these two numbers to come to a total of 49.5 feet.

    It would be 49.5 feet larger.
