I need help on my assignment that is due by 12midnight. It is now 8:12pm here. It is on Risk Assignment: Risk Assessment

You are a member of the Genericville City Council. A proposal has been brought forth to use
the insecticide spray, Malathion. Currently, the council is split on its decision, and your vote
will determine whether Malathion can be used in the city.
· Resources: Appendix B and Ch. 4 Figure 4.1 of Visualizing Environmental Science
· Due Date: Day 7 [Individual forum]
· Read Risk Assessment of Malathion in Appendix B.
· Create an outline of the risk of using Malathion according to the four steps of risk
assessment presented in Ch. 4 Figure 4.1:
o Hazard identification
o Dose-response
o Exposure
o Risk characterization
· Decide your vote for the city council based on your outline.
· Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that presents your evaluation of the risk of Malathion
based on your outline. Explain the reasoning for your vote based on the four steps of risk
assessment. Consider any relevant political, social, and economic aspects involved.
· Format your paper according to APA guidelines.
· Post your paper as an attachment.

How would you like us to help you with this assignment?

Yes please. I am kind of confused on how to do it. Thanks

1. Read the recommended resources.

2. Write an outline of the risk.

3. Write the paper including:

-- a. your evaluation of the risks.

-- b. your vote

-- c. your reasoning behind your vote.

But I don't understand how to start the outline. What has to be in it though.

Thanks but just don't get it still I am stressing out on this so much.

So I do the out line of the Hazard indentification- Such as birth defects or cancer, Dose-response- A person exposed to a low dose may have no system, whereas a high dose results in illness. Exposure- Where humans live relative to emissions is also considered. Risk characterization- Indicates that mexican americans, many of which are agricultural workers, are more vunerable to pesticide exploseure than other groups.

I. Hazard identification: malathion -- What are its characteristics?

II. Dose response -- What problems does it cause?

III. How much malathion results in serious problems?

IV. Does malathion present a low, medium, or high risk of injuries to people?

OK Thanks I think that helps me out alot now that I know how to start the outline.

You're welcome. :-)

Malathion is an insecticide pray that is being considered by Genericville City Council to control the spread of the West Nile virus. Malathion has the hazard identification, to the humans who are exposed to insecticide spray. Malathion risk assessment is does response, which is the amount of the insecticide needed to cause health concerns. The third step of the risk assessment is risk characterization that was first registered residential uses, and pest control. Then there is the last one which is the exposure to the humans depending on the amount of spray was released and how long they were exposed of the Malathion.

Hows this for starters

You might be falling into the trap (I think) of using information in the MSD on its own? You will need to use the MSD info in the context of the material being used. So start from the MSD and list the hazards. Think the process cycle through, how is the material

being:

stored
transported
dispensed for use
used
equipment cleaned
containers cleaned
People cleaned

Then come up with the hazards (not the possible accidents/effects to humans and environment - just the hazards.)

As examples you might go for

Dropped load leading to spilled concentrate
Spashed concentrate while filling sprayer

Then use the MSD for possible effects on humans and the environment, with out any hazard controls.

It is quite a long process if done properly.
