Write a balanced equation using the correct formulas and include conditions (s,l,g or aq) for each of the following reactions.

1)Carbon monoxide gas reacts oxygen gas to produce carbon dioxide gas.
Express your answer as a chemical equation. Identify all of the phases in your answer.

2)In the Apollo lunar module, hydrazine gas, N2H4, reacts with dinitrogen tetroxide gas to produce gaseous nitrogen and water vapor.
Express your answer as a chemical equation. Identify all of the phases in your answer.

  1. Did you try EITHER of these? They look simple enough. I've done the easier of the two and left the harder one for you. If you don't understand any of the steps, repost with that and we can help you through BUT we aren't in the business of doing all of your homework. You need to learn how to do these.

    2CO(g) + O2(g) ==> 2CO2(g)

  2. Yes I did try both of these I got #2 about five minutes ago on my own. The answer is 2N2H4(g)+N2O4(g)->3N2(g)+4H2O(g)

    and I tried the first problem and got: CO(g)+O(g)->CO2(g)

  3. Your answer to #2 is correct. Very good. Your answer to #1 is not correct but see my first response for the correct answer. The reason yours is not correct is that oxygen gas, in the free state, is diatomic, meaning it is O2.
    If you've not seen this is may be of use. In the elemental state, there are 7 elements that are diatomic (H2, N2, O2, F2, Cl2, Br2, I2) and remember their cousins (S8 and P4). Look on the periodic table to see the location of these elements. It makes it easier to remember them.
