  1. I've spent 10 minutes and I can't do it. Quite frankly, I don't want to waste any more time on an equation that isn't right. I can tell you, very clearly, that the text is wrong. I'll also tell you what I think has happened. The products are AgNO3, NO, and H2O. What I think has happened is that in printing, the O was omitted (a typo) from H2O so it appears that the product is H2 when, in fact, it is H2O. Bring it to the attention of your instructor and get points because you spotted it. How do you KNOW it won't give hydrogen. Because Ag is below hydrogen in the activity series. Ag (Cu, Pd, Pt, Hg, and a few others) can't displace H^+ from an acid; instead they reduce the nitrate to either NO or NO2. But no hydrogen.
