so would it be something like 8+7+4+9+9=x

I think you need to define x by saying let x = total number of hours of sleep in five days.

Then I would make a table showing
Monday 8
Tuesday 7
Wednesday etc
Thursday etc
Friday etc
Then show x = 8 + 7 + 4 etc. etc. = and add them up to give a total after the = sign.

You got 37 hours of sleep.

To find out the total number of hours of sleep you got during the week, we'll use a verbal model. Let's break it down day by day:

Monday: You got 8 hours of sleep.
Tuesday: You got 7 hours of sleep.
Wednesday: You only got 4 hours of sleep.
Thursday: You got 9 hours of sleep.
Friday: You got 9 hours of sleep.

To calculate the total, we add up the hours of sleep from each day:

8 + 7 + 4 + 9 + 9 = 37

Therefore, you got a total of 37 hours of sleep during the week.
