    when reducing radicals, look for factors of the inside number which are perfect squares.
    e.g. 18 = 9*2
    so √18 = √9*√2 = 3√2
    splitting 18 into 6*3 would be of no use.

    Another thing to look for :
    radicals of small numbers, as in your case √2
    Often you will be able to reduce your larger radicals to exactly that smaller one.
