A hockey team played 12 games. They won 2 more than they lost. They lost 1 more than they tied. How many games did they win, lose, and tie?

    let x = games that they tied
    let x+1 = games that they lost
    let (x+1)+2 = games that they won
    then we set-up the equation. since the total games is 12,
    x + x+1 + (x+1)+2 = 12
    x + x + 1 + x + 3 = 12
    3x + 4 = 12
    3x = 8
    x = 8/3 = 2.67 games (tied)
    x+1 = 3.67 games (lost)
    x+1+2 = 5.67 games (won)
