  3. 3x/2 + 8-4x/7=3

    The denominators are 2 and 7, and the LCM for them is their product: 2 x 7 = 14. So multiply through (multiply each term on both sides of the equation) by 14 to eliminate the fractions.

    14(3x/2) + 14(8) + 14(-4x/7) = 14(3)
    21x + 112 - 8x = 42

    combine like terms
    21x - 8x + 112 = 42
    13x + 112 = 42

    isolate x: start by subtraction 112 from both sides

    13x = 42 - 112

    combine like terms
    13x = -70

    divide both sides by 13 to get x by itself

    x = -70/13
