I want to check my answer.

Hamburger meat is on sale for $2.50 per pound. This can be written as $2.50x. Evaluate this expression if you buy 7 pounds of hamburger.
I think it's 17.50.

As long as you try! :) Even if you fail, I'll give you an A for effort!

Thanks!

You would be correct. When you put a number by a letter, it means to multiply and they then gave you the number "7." So you'd multiply 2.50 by 7, resulting in 17.50.

Thanks, Lizzy :) Can you check this one? Hold on, let me post it

A mail-order supplier of small electrical parts charges a shipping fee of $8, plus $5 for each push-button light switch ordered. If x is the number of push button switches ordered, then the expression for the total cost of an order is 5x+8. Which table shows the total cost for the given number of switches ordered?

Well, what do YOU think the answer is?

I'm not sure.

I can't help on this because I can't see the tables.

That makes sense... I'll do my best!

Unfortunately, no...

When you put a number by a letter, it means to multiply and they then gave you the number "7." So you'd multiply 2.50 by 7, resulting in 17.50.

ok if yall want to know well 7 times 2.50 you get 17.50 and yes it was correct

You solve that question yet?

I don't understand your problem. You worked the first one by

2.50 x 7 = 17.50 and that was correct.
Why wouldn't you do the 5x as you did the 2.50x then add 8?
If 1 switch is ordered it is 5x + 8 or 5*1 + 8 = 5 + 8 = $13
If 2 switches are ordered it is 5*2 + 8 = 10 + 8 = $18
If 3 switches are ordered it is 5*3 + 8 = 15 + 8 = $23
etc.
