You are purchasing four items and want to calculate the tax. The items

cost $2.50, $8.75, $3.00, and $10.25. The tax rate is 6%. How much is the tax?

I just need help finding the distributive property way. I already did the other way. Any help would be awesome! Thank you!

First, add all the prices up: $24.50

Second, multiply: 24.50*1.06=25.97
Third, subtract: 25.97-24.50=1.47

$1.47 is your answer. Hope that helped.

However, you asked for the distributive way,

I think they wanted:

.06(2.50 + 8.75 + 3.00 + 10.25)
= .06(2.50) + .06(8.75) + .06(3.00) + .06(10.25)
= ....

which of course would be the less efficient way of doing it.
You will of course get the same answer as AJ L

2.50+8.75+3.00+10.25=24.50

24.50*1.06=25.97
25.97-24.50=1.47
1.47 is what you saved!
The one above is not distribute. Next one will be distribute.
.06(2.50 + 8.75 + 3.00 + 10.25)
= .06(2.50) + .06(8.75) + .06(3.00) + .06(10.25)
= 24.50 then subtract 25.97-24.50=1.47
1.47 is what you saved! :) I love helping people and I wish there was less and hate and more love! If you every need me just say #Lost! Bye peeps Have a great day!

Thank you! The steps make a lot more sense now. Also thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Have a great rest of your day.

I will let you know if I have any other Questions. Thanks again!

I just realized that. But I also realized that my other one was wrong after reading this so thank you also.
