What are stressed and unstressed syllables? ie, where is the word "dozen" stressed at?

This site has a good explanation of stressed syllables.
(Broken Link Removed)

After reading it, ask youself "how many syllables does 'dozen' have". If you can not tell by looking, pat the table while you say the word. Do it a couple of times. You should automatically pat the table harder on the stressed syllable. You can also look the word up in the dictionary. The stressed syllable will have a ' mark.
