For 5 consecutive even integers, the sum of the first and third integer is 20 less than 3 times the fourth integer. What is the fifth integer?

  1. Let the middle integer have the value x. Then we are told that

    (x-4) + x = 3(x+2)-20
    Find x, and the 5th integer is x+4

  2. The 5 integers: n, n+2, n+4, n+6, n+8.
    n + (n+4) = 3(n+6) - 20,
    n = 6.
    n+8 = 6+8 = 14 = The 5th integer.
