  1. Let's take these one at a time. A is probably the correct answer for #1. That has not always been the case. After WW II, the US wanted Japan to mind its own business after we defeated their imperialistic goals. But we have encouraged Japan to take a constructive role. A is correct, you're right, but the question seems simplistic to me.

I think the U.S. did encourage the former Soviet satellite states to be independent. Some may say we didn't do enough. It's a legitimate question, and so recent (if not to someone who wasn't born yet) to give a definite answer. I'd say "false" in that we did encourage them, welcomed them into the "western" world, extended NATO protection to them, etc. and opened up trade and travel with those nations, which had been restricted, largely by the Soviets.

#3: Definitely NOT private ownership of property and resources! "Communism" means communal, not private! Both b and d could be correct answers. The IDEAL of communism would be a classless society (although it never worked that way because the ruling elite were always a class unto themselves - a perversion of the communist ideal). Nationalization is also correct in that the communal ownership of the means of production was accomplished through state-controlled/owned production, assuming that the government represented the people. In practice, again, it didn't work out that way, but that was the ideal. So, I can't tell you which, b or d, will be considered correct by your teacher or school program.

#4: a is correct, exit polls.

#5: c is correct. Taxes pay for public projects like schools, roads, the national defense, fire departments, parks, police, and a long list of things.
