I need help on these questions. Sorry if I put too many questions I'm just stuck on these.
1. In the relationship between the U.S. and Japan, the U.S. has put pressure on Japan to increase its involvement in world affairs.
I think the answer for this is a.
2. The United States did little to support Eastern European countries when they withdrew from the Soviet Union and established independent democratic governments.
I don't know this one. I can't find it anywhere in my textbook.
3. Which of the following is a principle component of communism?
a. private ownership of resources
b. a classless society
c. high taxes
Based on personal knowledge, I think the answer is b. But when I looked online people were saying that the answer is d and some were saying that it's a.
4. Which of the following has been criticized for influencing voters on Election Day due to premature declarations of winning candidates?
a. exits polls
b. entrance polls
c. voting polls
d. media polls
I think it is a.
5. The revenue that state governments obtain from tax payments is used to
a. pay for media coverage of national events
b. pay for collection of federal income tax payments
c. pay for public resources such as schools and highway projects
d. assist Presidential candidates with campaign expenses
I can't find this in my textbook but I think it is c.
Let's take these one at a time. A is probably the correct answer for #1. That has not always been the case. After WW II, the US wanted Japan to mind its own business after we defeated their imperialistic goals. But we have encouraged Japan to take a constructive role. A is correct, you're right, but the question seems simplistic to me.
I think the U.S. did encourage the former Soviet satellite states to be independent. Some may say we didn't do enough. It's a legitimate question, and so recent (if not to someone who wasn't born yet) to give a definite answer. I'd say "false" in that we did encourage them, welcomed them into the "western" world, extended NATO protection to them, etc. and opened up trade and travel with those nations, which had been restricted, largely by the Soviets.
#3: Definitely NOT private ownership of property and resources! "Communism" means communal, not private! Both b and d could be correct answers. The IDEAL of communism would be a classless society (although it never worked that way because the ruling elite were always a class unto themselves - a perversion of the communist ideal). Nationalization is also correct in that the communal ownership of the means of production was accomplished through state-controlled/owned production, assuming that the government represented the people. In practice, again, it didn't work out that way, but that was the ideal. So, I can't tell you which, b or d, will be considered correct by your teacher or school program.
#4: a is correct, exit polls.
#5: c is correct. Taxes pay for public projects like schools, roads, the national defense, fire departments, parks, police, and a long list of things.
