Conceptualize an image that represents the 1824 election topic, yet contains no lettering, text or numbers. One might imagine a crowded ballot box symbolizing high voter count contrasting with a half empty ballot box symbolizing low turnout. A tiny house or a distinguished building can represent the House of Representatives deciding on a president. Show three silhouette figures indicating the three presidential candidates. To depict the spoils system, sketch a government building and several unqualified job seekers, differentiated by attire or air of incompetence. Lastly, represent suffrage in America during Andrew Jackson's presidency with a hand casting a vote into a ballot box.

Why did many Americans feel that the result of the 1824 election was fraudulent?

(1 point)

New laws were enacted requiring voting men to own property, so many lost their right to vote; this resulted in a very low turnout of voters.Because no one received a majority of votes, the House of Representatives chose a new president from among three candidates; Henry Clay was not allowed on the ballot.Andrew Jackson won the majority of electoral votes, but he did not win the most popular votes; therefore he did not become president. As Speaker of the House, Henry Clay helped John Quincy Adams become president; later, Adams appointed Clay secretary of state.

2.
Why did some people oppose the spoils system?
(1 point)

It was possible that an unqualified person could receive a government job.Women were excluded from being able to vote.It sought to restore tribal lands to certain groups of Native Americans.Immigrants from certain nations were given land grants, but those from other nations were not.

3.

Well, your answer to #1 is mostly correct, but not entirely. It was THOUGHT that Clay helped Adams carry the House, but there was no proof of it. When Clay became Sec. of State, people THOUGHT that was proof that Adams had "bought" Clay's support by promising the State Dept. Only they knew for sure. But check other parts of your answer. Was there a low voter turnout in 1824? And what would that have had to do with the failure of any candidate to win the Electoral College anyway?

I got it wrong

you all got it wrong

Your answers are all wrong. The closest you come to having a clue is one sentence in your answer to #2. I suggest you read your text materials.

When, for example, was the voting age lowered to age 18 from 21? It certainly wasn't during the Jackson administration.
