In 1860 what concerns were brought about during Lincoln's Presidency?

The attempt of the South to secede from the Union was the main convern. This erupted into the Civil War one year later, when Union forces were attacked at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. Lincoln did not propose abolition of slavery until the War was in progress. Before that, there was constant tension about how to deal with runaway slaves and whether new states added to the Union in the South and West had would allow slavery.
