How does Twain use humor to present serious ideas? What does this reveal about Twain as a person? Twain uses words that sound like another word, but are spelled differently. For example, Tom Canty is from Offal Court, but it sounds like Awful Court. This shows that Twain can make fun of a serious situation by showing the more positive side with humor. Does Twain seem to believe that people can change for the better? Yes, Twain does believe that people can change for the better. In what ways do Twain’s characters represent people in general? The characters act as real people would. They are funny, scared, trusting, and can get hurt. Twain is considered one of the greatest American writers and humorists of all time. Why do you think that is so? I think this is so because he writes fiction stories with people who act like real people. He describes them like anyone else. The actions and reactions are very real. The humor is also funny and real. We decide who we are by the way we see ourselves and treat others. Others can tell when we have confidence and humor. They can also tell who we are by the way we treat them or others.
