On a rainy day,20% of the 55 pupils in a class were absent.How many pupils were present on that day?

  1. Find .20 times 55 and then subtract that answer from 55 to find how many were present.

    Another way to look at the problem is that if 20% are absent, then 80% are present. Just multiply .80 times 55
