because canada is such a long way from the equator, much of the country has a climate that is?

I live in southern Ontario, the province where about 40% of Canada's population lives.
We have a temperature climate, with all 4 seasons.
You could compare the climate where I live with that of Chicago, Cleveland or Rochester.
The winters are not as cold as you would think, this year we had no snow until the middle of January, and in the summer it often goes over 30º C.

I think it depends on which part of Canada you're referring to -- east coast, west coast, or interior. Be sure to scroll down and read this site completely.
