what is the connection among sectionalism, slavery, and states rights as causes of the Civil War? How did the southern response to the 1860 election results demonstrate this connection?

Could someone help me with this and explain it?

  1. Sectionalism divided the country between North and South.
One of the main causes of this dissension was the existence of slavery.
The Southern states claimed they had the right to demand that their states' rights superseded national concerns.

  3. I think I understand a little better now (thanks for your help Ms. Sue and Damon)

Sectionalism: Sectionalism divided the north and south because of their beliefs on slavery
Slavery: The northerners were against slavery; the southerners wanted it.
States rights: The northerners were angry because slavery was made legal in all territories. Since the North
opposed slavery, they obviously didn't want any more states to become slave states.

These things related to the Civil War because it set the northerners and the southerners against eachother
to fight for what they believed in.

The southerners were angry when lincoln became president, because he opposed slavery along with
the north. The only problem is, I don't know what the southerners being angry demonstrates the connection between
sectionalism, slavery, and states rights. Can you help me with this?

  4. Hi Lily,

as you said, the connection between the three was that they set the Southerners and Northerners against eachother because of slavery. The question was, "How did the southern response to the election of 1860 election results demonstrate this connection?" Well, I think it demonstrated the connection by setting the confederate states and the union states against eachother.

  16. Guys, use the outside resourses as resources, and please cite in the correct formating. Plagarism is not an option. The teachers have machines that check short answers and other written assignments for copied text. My Social Studies teacher sent me an scalding e-mail because I used Wikipedia, and my mother had a fit. So, yeah, don't plagerize or anything similar.
