Marked at half price and less the dealer discount of $4.50, the CD cost $4.50. How much was the original price of the CD?

    Marked at half price means the CD is 1/2 the original value

    Less means minus,

    So, with the half price and discount:

    let x = price of original CD

    (1/2)*x-4.50 = 4.50

    solve for x to find the original price of the CD
