Can someone help me finish this equation, please?

We're adding Magnesium to Copper sulfate and getting Copper.

This is what I have as of now:


I'm guessing it is a single replacement, so should I add MgSO4 to the right?

But then my lab procedure says that we will get H2 as a product. And it also says that we will remove the magnesium by adding H2SO4.

I'm supposed to write the equations for the reaction of magnesium with CuSO4 and the reaction of magnesium with H2SO4. Can anyone help?

It is a single replcement reaction with Mg and CuSO4. MgSO4 should be added to the other side as you suggest.

Mg also reacts with water(usually only hot water) to form H2 and Mg(OH)2.

Removing Mg with H2SO4 involves
Mg + H2SO4 ==> MgSO4 + H2.

Since your original question had the statement above, I thought you were being told that Mg reacted with water (which it does). Based on that I would add
Mg + 2H2O ==> H2 + Mg(OH)2

I'm sorry, I'm a little confused.

Which of these three should be my 2 equations?:



Mg + H2SO4 ==> MgSO4 + H2.


Mg + 2H2O ==> H2 + Mg(OH)2

If you are to have only two equations, Mg + CuSO4==>
and Mg + H2SO4 ==>

BUT the other one goes on also.
Since you did these in a lab it may be that the circumstances of the experiment dictate which equations you write but your original question stated that the three were going on at the same time. At least that is the way I interpreted it.
