What is the tone of Guy de Maupassant's short story, "The Necklace?"

I cannot find out whether or not this tone is reproving and mocking or realistic and ironic. If anyone could help that would be great as I am completely stuck on this.

  3. mame, do you know what the words "reproving", "mocking", "realistic" and "ironic" mean? If not, please look them up.

I assume the story titled "The Necklace" is the same as the one titled "The Diamond Necklace" in my translation of de Maupassant. If so, I agree with Ms. Sue that it is realistic and ironic.
