  1. 2 and 3 are right. The others are wrong.

  2. My textbook says, "In 1944 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Smith v. Allwright that primary elections had to be open to all races." Is 1 taxes?

  3. I'm not Ms.Sue, but no, taxes is not the answer to #1. After the "hot" war of World War II, was there another kind of "war" underway? Don't guess again. We won't correct a third guess.

  5. I'm sorry. But after I did a little reading, I know that your first answer was correct for 1. I had forgotten that civil rights became a big issue after the war. So Congress did concentrate on civil rights laws.

Also -- you're right about 4. I misread the question! Sorry.

My brain seems to be scrambled today.

  6. I don't know what your textbook says. I haven't read it. After World War II, we were involved in the "Cold War". Civil rights legislation came along in 1957, then in the mid-1960s. In the meantime, we concentrated on defense in developing a nuclear arsenal, the hydrogen bomb, bomb shelters, etc. The interstate highway system was enacted as a means of moving troops rapidly across the country, if necessary. Our emphasis was on defense more than anything else.
