The Rock found deep underground has rough edges as it was formed by breaking from a larger rock fragment which formed by the cooling of magma and therefore has jagged edges like crystals.

The rock found in the river was smoothed from years of being underwater in running water, which causes its edges to lessen. The Rock found underground is rigid from being broken off of a stalagmight or stalagtite. I probably messed up the spelling, but I honestly don't care. I hope this helps.
