A college football coach wants to know if the is a correlation between his players' leg strength and the time it takes for them to sprint 40 yards. he sets up the following test and records the data:

Every day for a week, he counts how many times each player can leg press 350 pounds. The following week, he has each player sprint 40 yards every day. The tables shows the average number of leg-press repetitions and the average 40-yard dash time (in seconds) for seven randomly selected players. What is the equation of the line of best fit? How many seconds should he expect a player to take to run 40 yards if that player can do 22 leg-press repetitions?

Leg Press (reps)|40-yard Dash (s)
15 |5.2
18 |6.3
8 |6.8
30 |8.2
26 |8.0
12 |5.3
21 |5.9

The exact equation is y = 4.536 + 0.107 Try that with all of the x values and you should get the y values listed next to the x values. Now we have to find how many seconds a player will take to run 40 yards if they can do 22 leg presses.

y = 4.536 + 0.107 * 22
0.107 * 22 = 2.354
y = 4.536 + 2.354
y = 6.89
Now to round to the nearest tenth and you should get 6.9
Good Luck!

GUYS I HAVE THE ANSWER:

LP divided by PL = Sp/Distance = Player x

You're welcome, fellow Connections Academy students.

Wow, this is depressing

lol greatest freakout ever.

So we all agree that stacie is wrong? right?

40=30/8(26+8)

I know I’m a year ahead of this post, but seriously “Dude”, this thread ended a year after you came in. It was dead, then you tried to insert your opinion.

The correct answer is the equation of the line of best fit is y=0.11x+4.54, and it would take the player 6.96 seconds to run.

Explanation:
Using technology, we calculate the line of best fit; we first enter the data points as a scatter plot, then run the regression tool, which gives us y=ax+b, where a=0.11 and b=4.54.
We now use this equation, y=0.11x+4.54, to calculate the amount of time it would take a player to run 40 yards if the player can do 22 leg-press reps:
y=0.11(22)+4.54=6.96.

here ya fools

not all my questions were the same so if yours were different aswell here you go. 1.C yes;y=1.625x

2.D no; y does not vary directly with x
-match equation to graph
3. y=2/5x-1 is D
4.-4x+6y=24 is A
5. A 51/1; your car travels 51 miles every 1 hour.
6. A 1/3
7. B -1/3
8. C undefined
9. D y-2=3(x-5)
10. C y+6=-5/8(x+10)
11. A y-16=8(x-2)
12. x=-4 the graph is B
13. A 3x+4y=12
14. A y=2x+2
15. B perpendicular
16. C neither
17. B y-3=-3/8(x+2)
18. A it ends in -3
19. C it ends with shifted 2 units left
20. graph for y=|x|-5 is A
21. graph for y= |x-4| is B
22. C negative correlation

my teacher web mailed me and said “hello! this answer is taken directly from (then the jiskha website) and now i have to complete the problem on paper and send it to her :/

i really really really hope your welcome is right bc this was hard & omg i hate math.

Dont use Ruby's answer, I just tried it and half of them are wrong

not funny

nice thread

heh I'm just reading looking at all the freak-out's from the past lol

so just copy+pastee?

Does anyone have the answers to the test?

i know that they change around the questions... so, i wrote down the question and answer just in case. i really hope this helps anyone!! :)

there are some questions that i was told by my teacher that had different options from what is listed. meaning that some people have completely different answers than others on some questions. im not 100% sure if everyone's is like this, but if yours is ill write those down on the bottom.

now the answers...

1. for the data in the table, does y vary directly with x? if it does, write an equation for the direct variation
x y
8 13
16 26
24 39
a- yes;y=1.625x

2. for the data in the table, does y vary directly with x? if it does, write an equation for the direct variation
x y
32 24
16 8
8 6
a- no; y does not vary directly with x

3. the grade a student earns on a test varies directly with the amount of time the student spends studying, suppose a student spends 6.5 hrs studying and makes a grade of 84% on the test. what is an equation that relates the grade earned on a test, g, with the amount of time spent studying, t, in hrs? what is the graph of your equation?
(the graphs are a little harder to explain, hope you get what im trying to say)
a- the graph ends on (6, 70) its pointed more up than the others

4. match the equation with its graph
y= 3/4x - 2
a- its the only line that passes through the bottom-right coordinate block

5. match the equation with its graph
-2x + 7y = 14
a- the left part of the line only goes a tinny-bit into the bottom-left coordinate block.

6. express the relationship between distances and the time in simplified form as a unit rate. determine which statement correctly interprets this relationship.
a- mine was 58/1 but i did see some other people that had 46/1

7. find the slope of the line.
a- 1/5

8. what is the slope of the line that passes through the pair of points (1,7) and (10,1)
a- 2/3

im lowkey tired asf its literally 4:50 am where i live in texas rn...so im going to sleep buuuut ill try to finish up with the answers tmrw/later today with a different post. hope this doesn't affect anyone until I'm back

what's the answer

Does anyone know the answer?

Wow that's sad

Your welcome has the correct answer.

they change everyones questions around so we cant cheat lol you have to put the actual answer not the letter. thats why half of them are wrong. im about to fail algebra so i just need the answer

I finished the test a while back. I hope this helps anyone.

1: yes; y = 1.625x
2: no; y does not vary directly with x
3: y = 1/3x - 6 Graph: D
4: -4x + 6y = 24 Graph: A
5: 46/1; your car travels 46 miles in 1 hour
6: 1/4
7: -1/2
8: undefined
9: y - 3 = 5(x - 8)
10: y + 6 = -5/8(x + 10)

13: 3x + 4y = 12
14: y = 3x + 4
15: perpendicular
17: y - 3 = -3/8(x +2)
18: The functions have the same shape. the y-intercept of y = x is 0, and the y-intercept of the second function is -5.
19: the two graphs have the same shape, but the seond graph is shifted 5 units left.
20: y = x - 2 Graph: C

23: Wouldn't be confident.(you should probably write why you wouldnt be in the paragraph too.)
24: y=0.11(22)+4.45=6.96

Remember that the questions are always changing. So, be sure the look closely at my wording and the wording of your questions to make sure it's the correct answers for YOUR test. That's also the exact reason why I put in the actual answers and not: "C, D, D-etc.". Good luck, everybody!

Can someone please answer the question, like, today

whats the answer???

WHAT IS IT

dude xDD this is horrible. im using astacie's answer.

Your Welcome is right, and also, Your Welcome I see you are cross posting this answer on other websites (which there is no problem with) I just sugest you use 1 name for Open Study, Brainly, and Jiskha! :)

Guys don't listen to Your Welcome used their equation and i double checked my work and I never got 6.9...

so whats the right answer lol

Guys im so flippin confused. Who the hell do i listen to??

Damn, reading these gets me high in a good mood.

is someone not going to answer this

why can't anybody answer this?!?!?!?

It's an equation. That's the answer and I got it right. Take it or leave it, it's not my grade. :)

is that the right answer anonymous?

right/

Are you sure this is the answer??

what was the answer

does anyone know if any of these equations were correct? ;-;

How does that even make any sense?

I don't know who's answer I should use :0 ima get this wronggg

honestly i’m probably gonna get all my questions wrong cus i keep changing them but once i see what the real answers are i will post them

update i got 11/22 fml

^

Thank you for painstakingly writing the questions and answers.
