Marcus has 4 ties and 5 shirts and 3 pair of pants. How many outfits can he make?

I think you can make six different outfits.

4 * 5 * 3 = 60 different outfits

Let's suppose you have these ties:

red, blue, green, yellow

You have these shirts:
white, black, aqua, brown, pink

If you wear the white shirt, you can wear 4 different ties >> 4
Black shirt >> 4

So -- with each shirt, you have a choice of 4 different ties.

5 * 4 = 20

You also have three different pairs of pants --

I think 6 outfits

Why only 6?

I thought you had to combine the combinations different ways. I got 6 different combinations.

There are 6 choices of shirt, 3 choices of pants, and 5 choices for either wearing one of the 4 ties or not wearing a tie at all, so the total number of outfits is 6*3*5 = 90
