Which statement correctly identifies how a lead-storage battery in a car works?

A. The battery acts as a galvanic cell as it provides current to the radio.
B. The battery acts as a galvanic cell as it is recharged by the alternator.
C. The battery acts as an electrolytic cell as it starts the car.
D. The battery acts as an electrolytic cell as it powers the headlights.

I think the answer is either a or b.

  1. I think A is the answer although it isn't stated very well. It also acts as a galvanic cell for everything else it runs in the car including starting the engine etc.

I didn't choose B because when it is being recharged by the alternator in the car it is acting as an electrolytic cell; i.e., it isn't running anything so it isn't acting as a galvanic cell.
