1. Find the sum of the first five terms of the sequence 2/3, 2, 6, 18, .....

My answer is 242. Am I right?

2. Which of these two sequences form a geometric sequence: 2x, 4x-2, 6x-4, ..... OR x+1, 2x+2, 5x+1, .....? Find the value/s of x and what is the sequenced formed?

I tried doing this but I did not get a constant common ratio for both. So what sequence did this form? And, how do I solve for x?

Thanks.

  1. Not quite. The first term is 2/3, so the sum is 242/3 = 80 2/3

The first 4 terms are shown, and the next is 54. Their sum is 80 2/3

On #2, neither is a GP

  2. For number 2, That is what I figured. Neither is a GP since they don't have a common ratio. Is there any way to still get the x? Cause that is what is in the question, find the value of x. Thanks.
