    14k Au is 14/24 pure or about 58% Au. It is alloyed with Cu, Ag, or some other metal to make it harder. So I would call Au the solvent and Cu/Ag as the solute.

    In a pepsi, the CO2 is the solute and rest of it is the solvent.
