im totally lost with my homework

this is all gibberish to me.

What are the coordinates of the vertex of the graph of the quadratic function
y= -x^2 -1?

A.(0,-1)
B.(0,2)
C.(-1,-1)
D.(-1,0)

It reaches its highest value when x = 0. At that point, y= -1. That is the vertex.

It is an "upside down" parabola.
