I need help with a question...

In this case k and l are parallel lines and contain the given points of: k=(2,5),(8,14) and l=(5,3),(11,y)... how do I calculate for y?

Please help!

  1. I hope you are not taught to use a notation like
    to represent a line through those two points, anyway ...

    the slope of the first line is (14-5)/(8-2) = 3/2

    the slope of the second line is (y-3)/(11-5) = (y-3)/6

    but parallel lines have equal slopes, so ...
    (y-3)/6 = 3/2
    2y-6 = 18

    y = 33/2
