I am writing a paper for my research class and I am not sure I am using the right word in the sentence below.

(This can include mental, physical, and emotional abuse that any member of a family conflicts on to another member of the family.)

I am not sure that “conflicts” is the correct word to use in this sentence, for some reason it just does not look right. Can someone please let me know what they think and if there is a better word to use, thank you.

inflicts I think

That's not the correct use of "conflicts" as a verb. Here's a suggestion?

This can include mental, physical, and emotional abuse that any member of a family inflicts on another member of the family.

Thank both of you so much. That was the word I was trying to think of and conflicts was all I could come up with. Thank you so very much.

You are welcome :)

In the given sentence, "conflicts" is not used correctly. It seems like you are trying to convey the idea of one family member inflicting or imposing abuse on another family member. However, I understand your concern that "conflicts" doesn't fit well in the sentence.

To find a better word, we can try to identify synonyms or related terms to express the intended meaning. Some alternatives could be:

1. Inflicts: This word conveys the idea of causing harm or injury to someone.
2. Imposes: This word signifies the act of forcing or thrusting something upon someone.
3. Perpetrates: This word indicates the act of committing or carrying out something, usually negative or harmful.

After considering these alternatives, let's revise the sentence:

(This can include mental, physical, and emotional abuse that any member of a family inflicts upon another member of the family.)

Now, "inflicts" accurately conveys the meaning you intended - that one family member is causing harm to another family member.
