    (2y^4)^-3 = 1/(2y^4)^3 = 1/(8y^12)

  3. (2y^4)^3 = (2)^3 * (y^4)^3 = 8 y^12

    Just as (2*5)^2 = 2^2 * 5^2 = 4*25 = 100
