Write an expression for the number of miles that Chris walked and an expression for the amount of money that Chris collected in pledges.

Chris walked 5 miles less than twice the number of miles that Lacey walked. The students will collect $18 in pledges for every mile they walked.

Chris collected $450
Chris walked 25 miles
Lacy walked 45 miles
Is this correct?

    No, that is not correct. If Lacey walked 45 miles then Chris walked 90 - 5 = 85 miles so whatever the problem really is, you have it wrong.

    Is " Chris collected $450" a given ?????
    If so I can solve it.

    C = 2 L - 5

    Cpledges = 18 C = 18 (2 L - 5)

    total collected = 18 (C + L)

    so
    C = 25 miles yes
    C = 2 L - 5
    30 = 2 L
    L = 15 miles

    25 = 2 L - 5

    add 5 to both sides
    30 = 2 L

    L = 15
