I have a paper due tomorrow, well on Sunday may 4th of 2008. It needs to be in APA format and it should have 1400-1700 words. The guidelines is on the Bead Bar and it's System Development Plan. Below is an essay I have started on and I would like to have some help in stretching it.. please. Thanks

Bead Bar System Development Plan,
Today we are looking at a company called the Bead Bar. This company has many technical issues and has asked us for some assistance in deciding what is best for their company. The technical issues they have are that they are still using a paper system for their growing company. The Bead Bar is asking us what we think will be the best way to go digital.

Keeping the digital issues as our main topic I will then look at each person on the management staff needs and each of the stores or franchises needs. Then I will recommend what is best for their company to go digital. Furthermore, I will be discussing my recommendations, the suggested networking topology needed, the network architecture, and the advantages and drawbacks from having a network.

First let’s take a look at the Bead Bar. The Bead Bar consist of many stores and or franchises all over the United States. They even have some stores on cruise ships. They are still using the paper system which has many problems that the management staff is hoping to correct by going digital. Their main issue is budget. They only have about $20,000 to purchase the computers needed for each store and management staff. With having a computerized network, the Bead Bar would be able to easily maintain all their inventory issues, customer information, employee information, and product information. They can easily send this information from place to place with a network of computers.

As far as computer or IT networking recommendations goes, that is pretty simple to see. They will need at least two desktop computer’s in each location so that management there can load all their inventory data onto to send to the cooperate office. The computers for everyone could be purchased at a major company at a business discounted rate. In the main office, each manager should have their own desktop and or laptop. A laptop for the traveling personnel is very important for them to be able to look up the information they need from where they are without interrupting the day to day operations of the store they are in.
On each of the computers they should all have the same software such as Microsoft Office which has Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access. Excel and Access are two very good data base systems that are easy for anyone to use. These computers for each location should be connected as a Bus or a Star topology depending on how many computers are being used in each location. Once this is set up they can connect through a telephone line or cable internet. This is known as a WAN. This will be less expensive and easier to set up for the Bead Bar needs. Once they get larger and have more stores and or franchises then they can move on to a larger type of setup.
The Bead Bar is growing and needs to go digital really quickly. They want to be able to keep up with the customers and employees information as well as inventory at each location, as well as communicate with each other and the main office staff. If each store or location has at least two desktop computers and or one laptop then the best topology set up to use would be a Bus, because it will use less wires to hook up and less expensive. However in the main office where all the top management staff is located they would have to use something like a Star where you can have more than just a few computers hooked up to one hub.
Thus, by having more than one computer in one location, it would be simpler to have them installed as peer-to-peer networking. This way everyone can share information faster. This will also be a little less expensive to start up as well.
As with any business there are some disadvantages and advantages of having a network installed in your business. Some of the disadvantages and advantages of going digital could be as follows:
Advantages:
1. No more paper work getting lost
2. Easier to share information from one place to another within the company
3. Easier to keep up with product information, employee information and customer information

Disadvantages:
1. It will be costly to set up at first depending on the size of the company
2. excess wires around the stores if not done properly
3. loss of information if a virus is caught on the computer causing it to crash
However, one should look at all sides of a situation before making a huge decision as this. By asking the proper questions to someone who knows about networking and doing a little research yourself, you can see that having a network system in your business will be an important and valuable thing to have. It will help increase your business in the long run.
With having a network installed in your stores and franchises you will see that it will help make the business run smoother and more efficiently. By going with a Bus or Star topology within each business then having it connect to a WAN would be less expensive to start up with. Once you see that this is working for you and you can see a profit from having a network system then you can always get a larger system.
Also with having a network or digital system you will see that you will have better performance from your employees because they will have less paper work to have to deal with. Although you will still need some paper work, a network will help keep it down and organized. By having a network or going digital, you will be able to store all your information your business will need and it will make it easier to share this information from one location to another. By having both Desktop computers and Laptops for each location, it will be easier for those traveling to pull up information they need right away. They can also forward this information you the main office by the click of a button. Now how cool is that?

oh well, forget it.. it's not letting me post my whole paper.. sorry for the mistake .. I just don't know what else to do.

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. If you are trying to "cut and paste" it rarely works here. You need to retype everything.

To stretch your essay, you can consider expanding on the following points:

1. Provide specific examples and case studies: Instead of making general statements about the advantages of going digital, provide real-life examples of businesses that have successfully transitioned from a paper-based system to a digital one. Discuss how these businesses have benefited from the transition, such as increased efficiency, improved data management, and cost savings.

2. Address potential challenges and how to overcome them: While you briefly mentioned the disadvantages of going digital, you can elaborate on each point and provide strategies to overcome these challenges. For example, regarding the cost of setting up a network, you can discuss options for cost-effective solutions, such as using cloud-based software or leveraging existing resources.

3. Discuss different software and tools: Expand on the software options available for the Bead Bar to manage their inventory, customer information, and other data. Explain the benefits and drawbacks of using specific software packages or tools, such as inventory management systems, customer relationship management (CRM) software, or project management tools.

4. Explore additional network topologies: Besides the Bus and Star topologies, you can introduce other network topologies that might be suitable for the Bead Bar's specific needs. Discuss the pros and cons of each topology and provide recommendations based on the company's size and future growth plans.

5. Address security measures: Discuss the importance of implementing robust security measures to protect the company's data and reduce the risk of data breaches. Explain different security measures that can be implemented, such as firewalls, data encryption, and user authentication.

6. Consider scalability and future growth: Discuss how the chosen digital system can accommodate the Bead Bar's future growth plans. Address scalability issues and how the company can easily add new stores or franchises to the network without disrupting operations or incurring significant costs.

7. Provide implementation guidelines: Outline a step-by-step plan for the Bead Bar to implement their digital system. Include considerations such as training employees, data migration from the paper system to the digital system, and troubleshooting common issues during the implementation process.

Remember to support your points with research and provide specific examples or references to validate your recommendations.
