I take AP World history. We are currently studying events like Alien & Sedition acts the election 1800, the Essex Junto, the war of 1812 & the Harford Convention. My question is was Washington correct to warn against political factions?

  3. Well, do you think Jefferson's group and Adams/Hamilton's group were the best solution or would cooperation have been preferable? Would we have nearly gotten into war (a sort of war) with France and into the war of 1812 with England if we had all pulled together?

  6. I personally think we would have been better off then, as now, without the party bickering and therefore agree with Washington. However you could certainly argue about it.

  8. Ok, but what did his warning do? I seen that the warning was in his Farwell address but what did it change ? what was the effect of this warning? did America even need the warning ?

  9. I am not sure his warning changed the behavior of the politicians who followed him at all.

    President Eisenhower is renowned for warning us to beware the "military/industrial complex". No one did anything about that either although all of us who were alive then remember his warning very well.

    Then of course there is "global warming". (but that was a vice president who warned us)
