  1. zero exponent is always 1: 5^0 = 1
    negative exponents switch between top and bottom.
    x^-4 = 1/x^4
    1/x^-4 = x^4

    4ab^0 = 4a(1) = 4a

    5x^-4 = 5/x^4

    3x^-2 / y = 3/(x^2 y)
