Need help with solve the system of equations x^3-y^2=7.75. And 3xy+y=3.5

  1. well, the 2nd equation says

    y = 3.5/(3x+1)

    so, plugging that into the 1st equation, we have

    x^3 - 12.25/(3x+1)^2 = 7.75
    (36x^5+24x^4+4x^3-279x^2-186x-80) / 4(3x+1)^2 = 0

    a little synthetic division yields x=2
