1. y - 5/3 =1

2. Combine like terms: -21a + 16a

3. Simplify the expression:
9a - b - 2a - 10b

4. 5(x + 10) + x

5. -4n + 7 + 2n = 1

Thanks for everything!!

Need parentheses if complex numerator

Perhaps you mean
(y-5)/3 = 1

multiply both sides by 3

y-5 = 1*3 = 3

add 5 to both sides

y -5 + 5 = 3+5

y = 8

Ok, so I have the answers to 3., 4., and 5. But 1. and 2. I'm confused about.

1. y - 5/3 =1

you want to get y alone
try adding 5/3 to both sides
y - 5/3 = 1
+5/3 = +5/3
---------------- add
y -5/3 +5/3 = 1 + 5/3
so
y = 1 + 5/3
we need a common denominator, 4
y = 3/3 + 5/3
or
y = 8/3 which is 2 2/3
===========================now check

if y = 8/3
then
y - 5/3 = 3/3 which is sure enough one

-21 a + 16 a

factor a out

a (-21 + 16)

a (-5)
or
-5a

Hey thanks, Damon still confused on number 1 though. the choices are;

a. -2
b. 8
c. 18
d. 16

Thanks SO SO SO SO much Damon!

You are welcome.
